Visual identity for the Italian restaurant located in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.
Osteria Mattiazzi is an Italian food restaurant that was created inside an old wine warehouse in Belo Horizonte and completed 20 years in 2019. For the revitalization of the brand, which was born with the proposal to offer simple and authentic food, we elaborated an identity that rescues the rusticity of osterias, respects history and adds youthfulness to the business of two decades.
To accomplish this task, we created a typographic composition that explores both the vernacular and the classic character. This combination of different typographies was thought from the research on original Italian canteens and the understanding that this resource could bring more spontaneity to the concept of tradition.
The other elements of the identity also bet on simplicity: from the placemat, which consists of raw fabrics, to the delivery packaging, whose craft paper bag bears only a stamp with the brand’s logo.
The color palette, inspired by flour, turmeric, saffron, olive and eggplant, involves the tones that appear in several prominent ingredients in this type of cuisine, such as wine, olive oil and pasta.
To celebrate Osteria’s two decades, we also designed a decorative plate for the Restaurants of Boa Lembrança’s Collection, which pays homage to the gnocchi recipe prepared for the special date.
